About This Blog

The Chudleigh General store has always been a meeting place for people (who might otherwise feel rurally isolated) to catch up on local news and share ideas, whether it be about farming techniques, the best place to fish for trout or to meet someone from a different walk of life, who is just passing through.

In the spirit of the role the shop has played as a central part of the community since it first opened in 1886; we will publish news of the interesting people we meet at the shop and share their insights and knowledge on this page, in the hope that it helps someone along their own journey of belonging. This is a bid to push back on the impersonal, fast-paced world of the internet. It will be about recounting what we learn about others (and ourselves in the process) by taking the time to sit around a fire, break bread with strangers and have a yarn or two. Take a read of the recent stories we’ve heard around the fire below.
